MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani held a wide-ranging press conference Thursday in Manhattan, reiterating key campaign promises and responding to recent controversies involving policing, immigration enforcement and remarks made by a relative of his chosen police commissioner.
Before speaking with reporters, Mamdani greeted residents and handed out hot chocolate in a neighborhood home to thousands of rent-stabilized tenants. He again vowed to freeze rents for roughly two million New Yorkers — a signature pledge.

Asked whether he had secured any assurance that current Mayor Eric Adams would refrain from reshaping the Rent Guidelines Board in a way that could undermine the rent-freeze effort, Mamdani said the topic had not come up in their discussion earlier this week.
“We did not have that conversation,” he said, “But I continue to be confident in the promise that I made to freeze the rent for two million New Yorkers.”…
