Governor Hochul says shootings in New York have dropped since 2021

New York (WRGB) — Governor Hochul announced that shooting incidents with injury in 28 communities participating in New York’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative have dropped 60% since 2021, marking the lowest levels recorded for the first 11 months of a year since the state began tracking the data in 2006.

According to Hochul, new statewide data reported to the Division of Criminal Justice Services shows 81 fewer shootings and 142 fewer shooting victims between January and November 2025 compared to the same period last year.

Cities including Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse saw double-digit declines in shootings this year. Albany recorded the largest drop, with a 47% decrease in shootings with injury and 44% fewer victims…
