New York, New York — For two years, Tabinda, a born and raised New Yorker, was in a place where she couldn’t escape her abuser. That all changed when she was connected to New Destiny Housing. who found her a new place to live within five months.
“That is the biggest gift, to be able to control your environment and not fear what’s lurking in the trees outside or in your driveway,” she said. “From the massacres that happened in the house, there were marks [on the walls], all of it. So it reminded us every day of the trauma. We went from a big house to a small little apartment, but it was the perfect fix, because this was something that was ours, and no one could take it away from us.”
