Hochul: Statewide shootings down 60% since 2021; shootings in 2025 reach new low

Shooting incidents with injury in New York are down 60% since 2021, and 2025 so far has seen the lowest number of incidents with injury reported for the first 11 months of the year since the state began tracking this data in 2006, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced Tuesday.

New statistics released by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services in the 28 communities that participate in the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative showed 81 fewer shootings and 142 fewer people shot between January and November 2025 when compared to the same period in 2024.

The cities of Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse saw double-digit declines in gun violence, with Albany experiencing the largest reduction of any GIVE jurisdiction with a 47% drop in shooting incidents with injury and 44% decrease in shooting victims…
