Mamdani begins ramping up appointments, including top Albany staffer

GREENPOINT, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has begun to expand his administration by appointing the person who must deliver his ambitious Albany agenda, which includes free buses, universal childcare, and taxing the wealthy.

Mamdani is making Catherine Almonte Da Costa the Director of Appointments. She will be responsible for vetting and hiring many of the crucial government workers who make the city run.

He is also tapping Jahmila Edwards, a government worker union leader, to be his head of Intergovernmental Affairs. Edwards will be Mamdani’s top official working with the state government, along with the City Council and the federal government.
