‘Time not on our side’: Long Island family desperate as mom with dementia missing for days

A Long Island family is worried about their 79-year-old wife, mother and grandmother who has dementia and has not been seen since Tuesday afternoon.

Shi Hua Xu lives with her husband and son in a multi-generational home on Oakley Street in Great Neck. In the family’s community, there are many people who can help keep track of her, but on Tuesday around 3 p.m., Xu’s son said she left the house without her cellphone or her new sneakers, which have an Apple Airtag embedded in the soles. Her family has not been able to track her.

“She’s walked off a few times, but we’ve been lucky,” said her son Chibo Qian, “She’s always had a tracking device with her.”…
