Authorities and the Lower East Side community are responding to the death of 76-year-old Zhu Hou, who was found in her Monroe Street apartment. According to ABC7NY, emergency responders arrived following a 911 call just before 8 p.m. last Friday. Hou had sustained severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, including seniors who consider the neighborhood safe. Anna Abbate told ABC7NY that the victim’s age may have made her vulnerable. A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, reported hearing a loud altercation the night before Hou’s body was discovered.
The NYPD has not made any arrests in connection with Hou’s death, which the Medical Examiner has classified as a homicide.
