Gunfire erupts blocks from Rockefeller Center and bustling holiday crowds

A man remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday, hours after a law enforcement source says he apparently shot himself in the middle of Midtown, blocks from holiday crowds were enjoying a nighttime look at the Rockefeller Center tree and Radio City Sunday night.

Little was known about the circumstances regarding the shooting, which happened near West 57th Street and Sixth Avenue — an area known as “Billionaire’s Row” — around 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

The law enforcement source, who has direct knowledge of the investigation, says the man may have shot himself in transit and went up to the street, where police found him. He is 27 and expected to live…
