Elderly Man Attacked With Shovel to Face Near Coney Island

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A 71-year-old Coney Island man was hospitalized Saturday morning after being struck in the face with a shovel during an unprovoked assault near Stryker Court and West 1st Street, police said. The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. when an unidentified man approached the victim and hit him before fleeing in an unknown direction. Emergency responders arrived within minutes and transported the injured man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect remains at large. He is described as a man with a light complexion, approximately 20 to 25 years old, standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build and a brown beard. He was last seen wearing a black jacket over a light-colored zip-up jacket, brown pants, black shoes, and dark glasses…
