Zohran Mamdani’s one bathroom request as he moves in Gracie Mansion

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and First Lady Rama Duwaji officially moved into Gracie Mansion on Monday. While there had initially been conjecture about whether Mamdani, 34, would leave behind his rent-stabilized Astoria apartment and move into the 226-year-old Manhattan mansion, he confirmed in December that he would follow suit.

“This decision came down to our family’s safety and the importance of dedicating all of my focus on enacting the affordability agenda New Yorkers voted for,” Mamdani said in a statement.

NYC mayors are able to live in Gracie Mansion, rent-free, and there are five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The $100 million historic home is located on the Upper East Side along the East River in Yorkville. The residence is popularly known as the “People’s House,” as it serves all New Yorkers.
