Heads up, New Jersey hikers. A rock slide has forced a section of trails at the Palisades park to close. If your weekend plans include exploring the Giant Stairs at Palisades, you’ll have to find a different trail to hike. Here’s what we know about the closure at Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey.
The rock slide happened at the “Giant Stairs” section of the Shore Trail at Palisades Interstate Park the morning of January 9th, 2026.
“This area of the park is unsafe due to the risk of possible additional rockfall activity,” according to a social media post by the Palisades Park Conservancy on January 10th.
