Tracking the snowstorm expected to hit NY, NJ

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Confidence is growing that a significant winter storm will impact a large portion of the East Coast this weekend.

Based on the latest data, a mostly snowstorm track with some mixing along the coast is looking increasingly plausible, a track that would support a widespread 6-inch-or-more snowstorm from New York City to Washington, D.C.

While some sleet mixing can’t be ruled out, especially near the coast, the majority of the thermal profiles continue to favor snow for most of the event. That supports a solid 6–10 inches of snowfall for many areas, with localized 10–15 inches totals possible where snow banding and higher snow ratios line up.

This is shaping up as a classic front-end–loaded snowstorm, where much of the accumulation occurs before any marginal warming aloft becomes a factor.
