The winter storm wreaking havoc across the US is believed to have claimed more than a dozen lives across at least six states as the death toll continues to climb.
The Northeast received a dumping of snow on Sunday as the region was hit by the tail end of a colossal winter storm that had already brought frigid cold to much of the southern and eastern United States.
The storm, which forecasters had warned could create more damage than a hurricane, plunged more than a million homes across the country into darkness as thick ice led to power emergencies. Some cities were essentially brought to a standstill amid impassible roads, while the brutal conditions saw a near-record number of flight cancelations.
