Winter Storm Warning As 12 Inches of Snow To Strike: ‘Hazardous’

Warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued as up to 12 inches of snow are expected to strike four states from Thursday, January 29, which is likely to cause “hazardous conditions” that will impact morning and evening commutes, particularly on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

States Issued Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories

Michigan, South Dakota, Wyoming, and New York have all been issued winter storm warnings and advisories from Thursday, and in some cases, lasting into the weekend.

Alger County is forecast to get another 3 inches of localized snowfall by Thursday morning, and potentially another 2 inches by evening, with blowing snow reducing visibility at times—especially near the lakeshore, according to the NWS for Michigan.

An additional 2 inches of lake-effect snow—which is snow that’s likely to fall in “relatively narrow bands”—is expected to fall over northern Schoolcraft County, up to 1 inch of snow could fall over Kalamazoo County and up to 2 inches over Mason, Muskegon, and Oceana Counties by Thursday morning.

Keweenaw, northern Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties could get up to 4 inches of snow and “patchy blowing snow,” which is likely to “significantly” affect visibility at times, until Thursday night…
