Jorlyn Paulino, 34, of New York, NY, drove now-31-year-old Joshua Alvarado to the border in the hours immediately after he shot and killed 35-year-old Jason Hidalgo, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, police were called to a private residence on Mevan Avenue in Englewood, where they found Hidalgo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Musella. Hidalgo was transported by EMS to Englewood Health Hospital & Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators later determined that Alvarado shot Hidalgo and fled the United States in the hours following the homicide, Musella said. Alvarado was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses and was tracked to South America, where he was arrested in Medellin, Colombia on Feb. 17, 2024. He was extradited back to the United States on Dec. 11, 2025, and remains detained at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack pending further court action…
