NYC faces more snow as forecasters warn of frostbite and hypothermia ahead of bone-chilling cold

The frigid blast that gripped New York City for the first month of 2026 claimed at least 16 lives, including 13 from hypothermia, as January delivered the region’s first “true winter” in years.

The first week of February is offering a brief respite from the deadly cold, but forecasters warn that freezing weather will continue to dominate much of the Northeast throughout the rest of the month.

While the first half of the week may feel less harsh in NYC than recent weeks, another shift in the weather pattern this week will usher in a fresh blast of icy air, brining another round of plunging temperatures and snow.
