MTA leader rules out all-door bus access until new fare enforcement

New York City commuters will have to keep dreaming of all-door bus boarding as the plan has been ruled out for the time being.

MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber announced Tuesday, while testifying at a state legislative budget hearing, that the city buses will only implement all-door boarding once the MTA has rolled out its proposed “European-style” fare evasion enforcement.

Lieber said the MTA won’t activate OMNY tap-and-pay readers at the back doors of buses until the new fare payment enforcement system is fully operational. He said there has been a delay because buses are still accepting MetroCards and coin payments, which cannot be verified under the new payment verification model…
