Hundreds of Mamaroneck High School students walked out of school today (Feb 13) in a protest against the national immigration crackdown. It was billed as an “anti-ICE” protest.
“Don’t leave the campus!” security guards shouted as the chanting students left through the building’s main entrance about 11:45 AM Participants in the blocks-long procession ignored the pleas as they lined up behind several young people holding a Guatemalan flag. The group left high school grounds at Boston Post Road and headed east toward Mamaroneck’s main business strip. District Superintendent Dr. Charles Sampson watched the walkout from the parking lot and attempted to have reporters escorted off the premises. There was little he could do about the NYC news helicopter hovering overhead.
