In the mid-1960s, John Sebastian was best known as the co-founder and singer of the Lovin’ Spoonful. The New York City-based folk rock band released several popular songs, including “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Summer in the City,” and “Daydream.”
By 1968, Sebastian left the band to focus on a solo career. Fast forward a few years, and what would become his signature song not only became a radio hit but was an iconic TV show theme song as well.
