43 years ago today, a Broadway play in New York City made history as it opened—and closed—on the same night. On Feb. 22, 1983, the production of Moose Murders opened its doors for the first public performance of the mystery comedy show, hoping for a positive reception. Unfortunately, it was anything but.
Moose Murders was a show written by Arthur Bicknell and performed at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in NYC. The story follows the Holloway family as they venture to a property they recently purchased called the “Wild Moose Lodge” in the Adirondack Mountains.
Of course, once they get there, they get snowed in with a bunch of unique characters and decide to make the most of it, playing a murder mystery game. As you might be able to guess, things don’t go as planned, and a few murders and other unfortunate incidents occur throughout the night…
