Edgewater Attic Standoff Ends As SWAT Hauls Man From Crawl Space

A quiet block on Casta Lane in Edgewater turned into a full-on police operation Saturday morning after officers responding to a reported domestic dispute found a 39-year-old man barricaded in an attic crawl space. After several tense hours, the man was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and brought to the Bergen County Jail, with police saying no new charges were filed in connection with the standoff.

How The Standoff Unfolded

Edgewater police were called to the home at about 7:47 a.m. for a report of a domestic dispute, according to Police Chief Donald Martin. With the situation escalating, backup arrived fast: the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, Bergen County Crisis Negotiators and the Fort Lee Police Department emergency-services unit all responded to the scene.

Negotiators and SWAT officers ultimately got the man out of the attic crawl space and into custody at about 10:51 a.m., Daily Voice reported.

Arrest And Custody

Authorities identified the man as 39-year-old Christopher Negit. He was taken into custody without any reported injuries and transported to the Bergen County Jail on an outstanding warrant, according to AOL News. Officials told reporters that no additional criminal charges were filed as a result of the incident.

Court Record And Prior Charges

Reporters who later reviewed court records found that Negit has been involved in multiple criminal and traffic-related cases in Bergen County in recent years, including 2024 charges in Englewood and Fort Lee that were ultimately disposed, Daily Voice noted. The outlet also reported a prior Fairview charge for possession or use of drug paraphernalia, along with a history of motor-vehicle violations.
