Staten Island man with mafia ties allegedly threatened to behead debtor’s son, prosecutors say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In chilling detail, federal prosecutors describe how a Staten Island felon with ties to the mafia allegedly terrorized victims in schemes that included loansharking, illegal sports betting and illicit distribution of marijuana.

Mark Liverano, 59, of Edgegrove Avenue in Annadale, has a 40-year criminal history that includes fatally shooting a man in Brooklyn and brawling with NYPD members and retirees at a bar on the South Shore of Staten Island.

Prosecution court documents allege that authorities seized an assault rifle and other weapons from the defendant who used extreme violence and intimidation to extort payment from victims.
