Payment delays plague NYC emergency snow shoveler program, report says

New Yorkers who answered the mayor’s call to shovel snow during recent blizzards may not receive payment until spring, despite promises of increased wages and immediate work, The City reported.

The hourly rate for emergency snow shovelers was raised from $19.14 to $30, prompting 1,400 people to register in the first 24 hours of last month’s blizzard. But payment delays have left workers frustrated and uncertain about when they will be compensated, the report said.
