North Bergen OKs measure to limit short-term rentals to owner-occupied buildings

The North Bergen Board of Commissioners approved an ordinance to limit short-term rentals to only certain owner-occupied buildings at last week’s meeting.

“This ordinance establishes clear rules that protect our neighborhoods while allowing limited, responsible short-term rentals in appropriate situations,” said Mayor Nick Sacco. “Our goal is to maintain safe, stable residential communities while ensuring that any short-term rental activity operates with proper oversight and accountability.”

This local legislation replaces the township’s previous laws from 2017 and 2023, creating a formal permitting system.

Eligible properties include certain single-family homes, owner-occupied units in two- to four-family dwellings, and condominium units where association rules permit such use…
