Man accused of killing NY-native and Loyola student identified by DHS

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The man accused of killing Loyola University student and New York-native Sheridan Gorman is an undocumented immigrant, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement asked Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago politicians not to release Jose Medina-Medina on Sunday after ICE lodged an arrest detainer.

According to the DHS, Medina-Medina is a Venezuelan national who was apprehended and released by the U.S. Border Patrol in May 2024 and then again one month later after a shoplifting arrest in Chicago.
