Five Union City police officers were suspended in 2025 after facing charges involving driving under the influence (DUI), altercations with civilians, among other infractions, according to their Annual Major Discipline Report.
Police Officer Mauricio Garces was suspended for 180 days after sustaining charges of DUI/intoxication off-duty, not in uniform and arrested, and conduct unbecoming of a public employee.
On July 2nd, 2023, Garces was arrested by the Secaucus Police Department for driving under the influence after being found asleep in his car while the car was in drive at an intersection.
