Shots Ring Out At Woodlawn 4 Train Stop, Man Left Fighting For Life

Thursday morning’s commute in the Bronx took a violent turn when a man was shot and critically wounded near the Woodlawn 4-train terminal, just before 10 a.m., at Jerome and Bainbridge avenues.

Officers rushed to the intersection outside the elevated station after reports of gunfire, finding a man with life-threatening injuries, according to News 12 New York. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and the block around the station was quickly sealed off as detectives began combing through the scene.

Police have not released the victim’s name and have offered no information about a possible motive, News 12 New York reports.

The area around the Woodlawn stop has been on neighbors’ radar for a while. Local coverage has documented serious violence in the shadow of the station, including a fatal shooting nearby in April 2023, reported by Norwood News. Residents have repeatedly flagged safety concerns along Jerome Avenue and pushed for more police presence and better lighting.
