Four people were killed and others were forced to jump from windows after a man allegedly set a fire inside a New York City apartment building, then stopped at a nearby gas station to get beer and remained in the area as flames consumed the home.

Roman Amatitla, 38, is charged with multiple counts of murder and arson in connection with the March 16 fire at a building on Avery Avenue in Flushing, Queens, according to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE and a press release from the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
