USPS temporarily halts pension payments to preserve cash

NEW YORK (PIX11)—United States Postal Service employees in New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut are expected to see a temporary halt in employer contributions to the Federal Employees Retirement System annuities, affecting nearly 40,000 workers.

The Postal Board of Governors decided to forgo pension payments to preserve cash amid the Postal Service’s ongoing financial crisis, which may cause cash to run out by February 2027, according to the agency.
