List: Manhattan restaurants closed in 2026 for sanitary violations

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — While New York City may be a mecca for food enthusiasts, not every restaurant may be safe to eat at.

To ensure that restaurants comply with food safety rules, the NYC Health Department conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year.

Grades are typically assigned after inspection, but restaurants with repeated violations may face closure. In 2026, 8 restaurants in Manhattan have been shut down so far, according to ABCEats, the City’s restaurant inspection lookup tool.

Below is a list of the restaurants and some of the major sanitary violations discovered:

  • Cosmic Cat Cafe at 170 East 2nd Street
    • The food preparation and storage areas, or other areas used by employees or patrons, were contaminated by sewage or liquid waste.
    • Food contact surfaces were not properly washed, rinsed, and sanitized after each use.
  • CROWN CHICKEN N FRIES at 3853 Broadway
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food and non-food areas.
    • Live roaches in the facility’s food or non-food areas.
  • Eclair Bakery at 305 East 53rd Street
    • Intact raw eggs stored above 45 degrees.
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food and non-food areas.
  • Fresh Curry at 183 Church Street
    • The food preparation and storage areas, or other areas used by employees or patrons, were contaminated by sewage or liquid waste.
    • Sewage disposal system is not provided, improper, inadequate, or unapproved.
  • Glace by Noglu at 30 Rockefeller Plaza
    • Food workers do not wash their hands thoroughly after using the toilet, or after coughing, sneezing, smoking, eating, preparing raw foods, or otherwise contaminating their hands, or do not change gloves when required.
    • No or inadequate potable water supply.
  • I LOVE BIBIMBAP at 1049 Saint Nicholas Avenue
    • The food preparation and storage areas, or other areas used by employees or patrons, were contaminated by sewage or liquid waste.
    • Sewage disposal system is not provided, improper, inadequate, or unapproved.
  • Nakamura at 172 Delancey Street
    • Live roaches in the facility’s food or non-food areas.
  • NaNa Thai Street at 31 East 21st Street
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food and non-food areas.
    • Live roaches in the facility’s food or non-food areas.
    • Filth flies in food or non-food areas.
