Lane closure remains on S.I. Korean War Veterans Parkway despite project delay

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island drivers are still facing a lane closure on the Korean War Veterans Parkway, despite the state delaying construction for two weeks.

A heavily traveled stretch of the roadway heading toward the South Shore of Staten Island and the Outerbridge Crossing has been reduced to a single southbound lane since earlier this month. The work is part of the New York State Department of Transportation’s project to make improvements to the heavily trafficked roadway, including ramp work that encompasses replacing damaged concrete, crack sealing, curb repairs and other associated repairs.

The construction was expected to officially begin right after Memorial Day weekend, but those plans were put on hold after Borough President Vito Fossella called on the state Department of Transportation to delay the project until after the summer is over…
