Lin-Manuel Miranda’s next Broadway show has major NYC ties

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Musicals… come out to play! Lin-Manuel Miranda’s next Broadway musical has deep ties to New York City and film history.

“WARRIORS,” based on the 1979 film and book “The Warriors,” will open on Broadway in April 2027, promoters announced Tuesday.

The cult-classic movie follows Swan and the Warriors gang after Cyrus, the leader of New York City’s most powerful gang, was shot dead during a midnight summit in Van Cortlandt Park. The Warriors were chased by seemingly every rival gang in the city for one crazy night to prove their innocence.

Over the course of that night, New York City’s graffiti-ed subways, streets and parks were shown off in a Scorsese-esque rawness that is rarely depicted on film.

“With WARRIORS, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive,” said co-writers Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis. “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne.
