Current, former NYPD officials raided in ongoing FBI, internal affairs corruption probe

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Federal agents and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau executed search warrants at multiple locations across New York City on Wednesday as part of an investigation centered on bribery allegations involving current and former police executives, according to reports.

Police have placed Assistant Chief Jimmy McCarthy and Lt. James Lee, both of Manhattan South, on modified duty, after investigators searched McCarthy’s residence, according to NBC New York. Authorities also raided the home of former NYPD spokesman Tarik Sheppard, seizing his phone.

Authorities were also seen outside the home of Jeffrey Maddrey, the department’s former highest-ranking uniformed officer, NBC New York reported. Maddrey resigned in 2024 amid allegations he demanded sex from a subordinate in exchange for opportunities to earn extra pay.

The investigation, which involves the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, is examining, in part, how the department managed promotions and assignments, according to reports…
