TORCON 4 Tornado Risk and Widespread Damaging Wind Threat Target Philadelphia, New York City, Newark, and Atlantic City Today

NEW JERSEY — A TORCON 4 tornado risk has been issued for eastern Pennsylvania, all of New Jersey, and New York City, marking a medium risk for tornadoes across major cities including Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Newark, and New York. Residents in these areas are urged to stay alert today and have a safe place to shelter should a tornado warning be issued.

A widespread high wind risk also extends from Ohio through New York and into Virginia, with winds strong enough to break tree branches and cause power outages across a broad multi-state region.

TORCON 4 Marks Highest Tornado Risk Across the Region

The TORCON scale, which measures tornado probability on a range from 1 to 10, shows a level 4 risk centered directly over Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. This represents the highest tornado risk category within today’s outlook.

A slightly lower TORCON 3 risk surrounds the highest-risk zone, covering State College, Scranton, Binghamton, and Albany, while a TORCON 2 risk extends farther west toward Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Columbus.
