A 37-year-old man was shoved off the platform and onto the subway tracks at the 125th Street station in Harlem on Tuesday night, following an argument with another rider that sent him tumbling onto the roadbed just before an oncoming train. Fellow commuters pulled him back onto the platform before a train arrived, and he was rushed to Harlem Hospital in stable condition after avoiding contact with the third rail. The man who shoved him fled the station on foot, and police have not made an arrest.
The attack happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound platform, according to police sources cited by amNewYork. What sparked the dispute between the victim and the other man remains unclear, and no description of the suspect was immediately available.
Video Shows Victim Sprawled by the Turnstile
Citizen app video captured in the aftermath showed the victim on the ground near a turnstile, talking with police who had rushed to the scene, the report noted. Officers were called to the station immediately once word went out that an assault was in progress on the platform.
EMS crews transported the man to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The investigation remains open, and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday, per the outlet’s account.
