New official flag in effect for 500,000 Americans under law plan

HALF-A-MILLION Americans could soon be represented by a new flag if a proposed law gets its way.

The change would officially codify a banner that has long been the preferred representation of a borough in one major US city.

The New York City Council’s Committee on Governmental Operations, State and Federal Legislation will vote whether or not to codify Staten Island’s unofficial flag into city law on Thursday.

If made official, the new design could be flown at parades, receptions, and other civic functions officially run or approved by the local government…
