New York City became a meeting place for mayors from around the world this weekend as Mayor Zohran Mamdani welcomed city leaders for the 2026 Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit, a three-day gathering focused on housing, climate change and migration.
New York and Los Angeles are co-chairing this year’s U20, which was convened by C40 Cities and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). The summit, which ends Sept. 21, brought together 25 mayors, deputy mayors and senior city officials representing 34 cities across G20 countries.
The participating cities included Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Phoenix, San Diego, and Seattle, alongside cities from Canada, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
