Brooklyn restaurants closed in September for sanitary violations

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — To ensure safe dining for New Yorkers, the New York City Health Department conducts unannounced inspections at restaurants citywide at least once a year.

Grades are typically assigned after inspection, but restaurants with repeated violations may face closure.

In September, 13 restaurants across Brooklyn were closed down for violating regulations, including a Dunkin’ location, according to ABCEats, the City’s restaurant inspection lookup tool.

Below is the list of restaurants, along with several notable safety violations that health inspectors uncovered:

  • A Lo Mexa Guatelinda at 6516 14th Avenue
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food or non-food areas.
    • Filth flies, food/refuse/sewage (FRSA) flies, or other nuisance pests in food and/or non-food areas.
  • Dunkin’ at 418 Coney Island Avenue
    • Insufficient or no hot holding, cold storage, or cold holding equipment.
    • Toilet facility not provided for employees or for patrons when required.
  • Empanada Loca at 9 Dekalb Avenue
    • Personal cleanliness is inadequate.
    • Sanitized equipment or utensils are improperly used or stored.
  • Fresh Grill at 1368 Flatbush Avenue
    • Sewage disposal system is not provided, improper, inadequate or unapproved.
    • Filth flies, food/refuse/sewage (FRSA) flies, or other nuisance pests in food and/or non-food areas.
  • Hyderabad Peri Peri at 804 Grand Street
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
  • Indian Kitchen at 739 Grand Street
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
  • O’s Natural at 683 Myrtle Avenue
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
    • Filth flies, food/refuse/sewage (FRSA) flies, or other nuisance pests in food and/or non-food areas.
  • Orchid Tea Cafe at 4618 8 Avenue
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
  • Sabores at 274 Knickerbocker Avenue
    • No hand washing facility in or adjacent to toilet room or within 25 feet of a food preparation, food service or ware washing area.
  • Skovorodka at 615 Brighton Beach Avenue
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
  • Tina’s Place at 1002 Flushing Avenue
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food or non-food areas.
    • Filth flies, food/refuse/sewage (FRSA) flies, or other nuisance pests in food and/or non-food areas.
  • Tropical Shack at 3029 Stillwell Avenue
    • Sewage disposal system is not provided, improper, inadequate or unapproved.
  • Zaca Cafe at 426 Marcus Garvey Boulevard
    • Evidence of mice or live mice in food or non-food areas.
    • Live roaches in food or non-food areas.
