Every month, New Yorkers report dozens of escaped or abandoned parrots and parakeets, from a pineapple conure in Murray Hill to a budgie in the dirt on Fordham Road in the Bronx. To state the obvious, no parrot is native to New York City, and few are equipped for our winters.
