Police from the 100th Precinct are looking for a suspect who allegedly shot a man after brawling with him onboard a westbound MTA Q22 bus in Rockaway Park on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Police say the 20-year-old victim was riding in the bus in the vicinity of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 105th Street when he was engaged by a stranger in a verbal dispute over a seat. The argument escalated into a physical altercation that spilled out onto Rockaway Beach Boulevard where the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots toward the victim, striking him in the buttocks, police said. The gunman fled the scene on foot, traveling eastbound on Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
EMS responded to the location and transported the wounded man to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
“We should not be having people shooting each other in broad daylight over a dispute about a seat on a bus,” Council Member Joann Ariola told QNS. “The weak justice system out of Albany has created this sense among criminals that there are no consequences for their actions. But we need those consequences, and we need them now. I will be staying in contact with both the 100th Precinct and the Queens DA to make sure that a clear message is sent — the streets of Rockaway are not the OK Corral, and we are not going to tolerate this kind of lawlessness here.”
