Texas Governor Greg Abbott Slams NYC Plan Giving Migrants $1000 Per Month

Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized New York City’s mayor for the “insanity,” “reprehensible,” and “offensive” proposal to give prepaid credit cards to migrants.

The program in question, reported by the New York Post, will provide prepaid cards to 500 migrant families staying in hotels, replacing the current food service. The cards can be used at specific food retailers, and migrants must sign an affidavit promising to spend the funds on food and baby supplies. The program, managed by Mobility Capital Finance, could provide a monthly allowance of nearly $1,000 per family of four for food.

Abbott told Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures. “What’s going on in New York is outrageous, and Americans across the country are angry, not just about what’s going on in New York, but the underlying cause for it, which is Joe Biden’s open border policies,”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott prioritizes the border crisis, increasing enforcement amid a dispute with the federal government over control of the Texas-Mexico border in Eagle Pass. Despite immigration law falling under federal jurisdiction, Abbott criticizes the Biden administration for not enforcing it, leading Texas to handle the issue independently. Abbott routinely transfers border-crossing migrants to New York City via bus.
