NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 25-year-old man died of a fatal seizure on Friday hours before he was supposed to appear in court, according to police and court records.
At about 6 a.m. on Friday, 25-year-old Leron Jones was discovered having a seizure while in police custody at 100 Centre Street, the location of the Manhattan Criminal Court and NYPD Manhattan Central Booking.
Police said that Jones went into cardiac arrest while waiting for medical personnel and CPR was administered.
EMS transported Jones to New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
According to court records, Jones, of the Bronx, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three other related charges. He was slated to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Police could not immediately release the circumstances around Jones’ arrest.
The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, police said.
The death is also being looked at by the New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation, a source told the New York Daily News.
