$1.1 Million Settlement For NYC Sanitation Worker From Staten Island Who Was Wounded In 2019 Crash

A $1.1 million settlement was reached with the former Staten Island city sanitation worker who was hurt in an accident five years prior.

The event happened on February 9 at around 6:30 a.m. on Johnson Avenue, close to Stewart Avenue, in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood.

The Story Behind The Severe Crash Incident

According to the lawsuit, the defendant, 43-year-old Matthew Santo of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., ran a stop sign in a 2011 Audi and collided with the plaintiff’s car, 48-year-old Robert Jantz of Rosebank, who was driving a 2015 Nissan on Johnson Avenue.

A civil action was filed in June 2019 at the state Supreme Court, St. George, by the Staten Island-based legal firm Chelli & Bush, alleging “negligence” and “recklessness” on the part of Santo.

The Attorney Michael Bush’s Statement

Attorney Michael Bush stated in the lawsuit that the plaintiff was taken to a hospital in Brooklyn and treated at Staten Island University Hospital’s emergency room later that day. Medical data verified that a spinal fusion and surgery on the right shoulder were performed in May 2020 and May 2019, respectively.
