HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) — A second round of conversations happened Sunday between New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Harlem residents over a vacant luxury apartment building.
The city originally planned to make it a migrant shelter – but changed course after community outrage. It’s unclear if Harlem residents and Adams will ultimately see eye-to-eye on what to do with this vacant luxury property.

It’s been dormant for 10 years on the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and 130th Street. The city initially planned to use it as a migrant shelter- but said it will now become transitional housing for homeless families for children.
Longtime residents said Harlem is already saturated with shelters and believe the space should be opened as affordable housing for seniors and young professionals. Adams unexpectedly showed up at a community meeting Wednesday to discuss the building – and promised to be back for round two of the conversation Sunday.
