Seven Irish-born victims died during the September 11, 2001 , terrorist attacks. The attack claimed 2,977 lives, many of whom were Irish-American as well as Irish-born.
During a ceremony in 2023 , there were six moments of silence throughout the morning at 8:46 am when Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower; at 9:03 am when Flight 175 hit the South Tower; at 9:37 am when Flight 77 hit the Pentagon; at 9:59 am when the South Tower collapsed; at 10:03 am when flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and at 10:28 am when the North Tower collapsed.
