NYC grandma in wheelchair needs apartment repairs at NYCHA unit

BROOKLYN (PIX11) – A Brooklyn grandmother lost both her legs a few months ago and is in a wheelchair and is struggling to get repairs to her apartment.

She also feels stuck in her home due to chronically broken elevators. Her daughter reached out to PIX11 News for some help.

Lindsay Coker says the elevators at her mom’s NYCHA building are inconsistent. She says her mom has missed dialysis appointments for weeks now. Her mother, 66-year-old Roslyn Coker, lives on the 16th floor, and there’s no way out when the elevators are broken.

When PIX11 News visited, one elevator was out of service for rehabilitation.

Coker is now disabled and lost both legs due to complications caused by her diabetes in March. Now, her only daughter, Lindsay, is taking care of her and is her lifeline.

They have a wonderful bond, which they say helps them stay strong despite the conditions. It’s just the elevators; her kitchen needs repairs, too.

PIX11 News contacted the NYCHA, and a spokesperson told us they were on it.
