A fire on W56th Street this evening (Thursday) led to the evacuation of over 30 apartments as FDNY worked to get the blaze under control.
Twelve units made up of 60 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to a report of a fire at the Hell’s Kitchen apartment building just after 9pm this evening, a spokesperson for the FDNY said.
Two ladders were raised to the rooftop of 449 W56th Street, a four-story, 32-unit building between 9th and 10th Avenue.
Firefighters said they had the fire under control at 9:37pm. One woman was taken from the building and transported by ambulance to the New York-Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center.
“I heard people in the building yelling ‘fire’ so I ran out of my apartment,” one resident told us.
