A 13-year-old boy, a recent immigrant, was killed while riding atop an MTA subway car in Queens — one of two subway surfing incidents that happened in the city in 12 hours, police said.
Adolfo Samabria fell from the roof of an M train at the Forest Ave. subway stop near 67th Ave. in Ridgewood just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Responding officers found the teen unconscious at the station. He died at the scene.
Investigators later determined Adolfo was subway surfing when he fell off the train.
According to some of his friends who spoke to CBS News at the station Thursday, Adolfo had immigrated to the U.S. from Colombia just last year. His nickname was “Colombia,” and he had just celebrated his 13th birthday on Sunday.
Less than 12 hours after Adolfo’s tragic death, a 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries after he fell from a No. 5 train at the E. 180th St. station in the Bronx.
The man was on top of the train when he “struck an unknown structure” and fell onto the tracks, cops said.
