NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A driver fleeing a traffic stop struck and injured an NYPD officer in Brooklyn on Tuesday night before he was taken into custody, police said.
The chaotic encounter began when officers saw a 25-year-old man operating a dark sedan recklessly around 9:30 p.m. at Forbell Street and Sutter Avenue in East New York.
The officers pulled over the vehicle and approached on foot, but the driver accelerated and struck one of them, police said.
The injured officer was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police managed to stop the vehicle again and take the driver into custody.
Charges against him were pending Wednesday as the investigation continued.
No other injuries were reported, and police didn’t confirm reports that shots were fired during the encounter.
