A man was fatally stabbed Tuesday morning in a Brooklyn park near two migrant shelters that has been the scene of several violent incidents this year, according to police.
NYPD officials said a 21-year-old man was attacked and stabbed in the abdomen around 8:45 a.m. at the Steuben Playground, near the intersection of Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street in Clinton Hill.
He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and pronounced dead, officials said. His name was not immediately released as police worked to notify his family.
The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, and officials were not yet sure what sparked the violence.
The small playground was the scene of a fatal shooting in July , when a city parks worker allegedly murdered a Venezuelan migrant who’d been sleeping there.
That attack was part of a chaotic night that included two other fatal shootings nearby, sparking fear among homeless migrants who said they had no choice but to sleep in the park after their shelter stays expired. Longtime residents also expressed fears that they were watching the neighborhood descend into chaos.
